Sooo my younger bro got into an accident last night. He admitted it was his fault. I'm not sure what street it was so I can't really show you how it was done. He just wasn't paying attention and got t-boned.
If the car is totaled it'll just be paid off. He'll be carless but he will be out of debt and can actually get something in his budget this time. I'm so hoping it gets totaled from frame damage. It looks like it may have some in these pics but what does Oppo think?

A few questions:
How old is he?
Was that his first car?
What Year/Make/Model is it?
Does he make minimum wage and/or work part time?

I was more or less thinking the second pic may show possible frame damage. It's supposed to be completely straight down there underneath the doors.

usually once airbags deploy, like his did, it's totalled. I'd say it's a goner.

If so my prayers have been answered. Now that he's had his dream car we can fall back to reality. The insurance and car note were far too much for him to handle in the first place.

it could just be the plastic side skirts a little bent. but the airbags did go off. IDK

1. 23
2. Yes
3. 2013/Ford/Taurus Limited V6
4. Nope but he doesn't make enough for a $425 car note plus $250 for insurance and still pay his student loan and other bills. He purchased this off the first check he got at his then new job. He has since lost that job and was using this car as an Uber driver to supplement his income.

My money is on totaled. When I got hit by a drunk driver he just clipped the rear and did almost $6k in damage. Airbags are at least $1k each.

I'm quite sure it'll be totalled then. Because that's serious damage

even without frame damage, that looks like a lot of body work to get it right. plus all of those airbags.
what is it anyway... an a4?

looks like he got t boned by some sort of truck with a plow rail. There's a concerning crease above where the 2 doors meet. Can't tell if it's structural or not
Happened to me 2 years and the frame got all sorts of fujed, looked a lot like the second picture
For reference:
And not a single airbag even went off. I lucked out there

Yep he's fine. Pride is a little bruised tho. He seems to get in an accident annually. Unfortunately the prior two were in vehicles of mine but the worst damage was done to my back up 97 Civic. Just one long scrape. It was a beater car so it didn't really bother me much.

Yep he was hell bent on getting his dream car as his first car. I tried to tell him give it a night to think it over before he jumps into this deal but would he listen to his very knowledgeable brother who's worked all aspects of the car business for the pass 6 years and has had 6 cars as well???? NOPE. Maybe this time he'll listen to me and actually let me help him find a car that fits his realistic budget.

No side impact airbags. $6k is ALLOT of damage for a Civic of that vintage. Definitely totaled. I was looking at the second pic and my thought is the structural damage could've happened towards the bottom by the way that trim piece is bent. It's typically straight.

Says alot about the quality of Ford products these days I guess. They look like Astons and Audis

Technically it's a SHO in dark green but his "budget" would only allow for the trim right beneath it at best. On top of that it was rental car in its first life.

I must agree tho it could always be worse. He just likes how big and bold this car is. I'd much rather go with a Flex Ecoboost if I wanted to make a bold statement but that's just me. I hate Fords accessory bundles. They literally make no sense. He had the top notch SYNC system, full leather, back up camera and all that jazz yet this didn't come equipped with a sunroof nor seat heaters...I couldn't believe my eyes.

Who was more irresponsible here: your brother or the bank that approved such a loan?
BmanUltima's car still hasn't been fixed yet, he'll get on it tomorrow, honest.

Corolla. Wasn't totaled. Hit right behind the rear driver side wheel. Looked not bad but it screwed up a lot of stuff.

Him. Because technically he had no other expenses at the time. His student loan was in deferment. If he would have still had the job then he'd be in a much better predicament but he also lost his job a few months back from being irresponsible. I suggested he at least wait til he got past his 90 day probation and save cash for a down payment but nope. I also suggested he get a small loan from the bank for like $3k to $5k and do some craigslist shopping but that went out the window as well. You can get a heck of a decent car in that bracket.

So your brother lost his job because of his behavior as well... And ignored your sound advice... And wrecked a few cars... I'm seeing a pattern here.
Family. What can you do?

Can't just up and replace him. Only have one younger bro. He's gonna have to live and learn the hard way. He'll learn he's just an unusually slow late bloomer in life and seems like a teenager sometimes more than anything else.

By the time I was 23 I had wrecked two cars and effectively lost my job. I cast no stones. He'll be fine in time.

He does understand that deferment doesn't mean "Pay when you can" it means "Pay when you can but we are still charging you interest hence making your loan longer" right?
